How to read and write Thai address with examples

If you are someone who has some relationship with Thailand or Thai people. You probably have a chance to use, read, or write the Thai address. No matter whether you are Thai, a foreigner in Thailand, a husband or wife of Thai people, or doing a business with Thai company.

The Thai address system has its own unique (Thai) word, way of writing, and some rules. It would be difficult for someone who doesn't get used to or understand it but no worries, even Thai people sometimes find it confusing.

In this article, I will explain how to read and write a Thai address as a guy who live in Thailand for a long while and has used Thai addresses in daily life. I will also give you some examples of Thai addresses so you to master understanding them by yourself. If you are ready, Let's get started!

First, you need to understand that Thai address can be separated into 2 types which has a few difference. There are Bangkok addresses and other provinces' addresses. I will show you both in this article.

In Thailand, an address always started with the smallest unit to the largest unit. So the list of units will be like this...

 

Bangkok Address Structure

  1. House no.
  2. The village, Housing communities, Condo name, or Building name - Optional
  3. Alley (Soi ซอย or ซ.) - Optional
  4. Road (Thanon ถนน or ถ.)
  5. Sub-District (Kwang - แขวง)
  6. District (Khet - เขต)
  7. Bangkok Province
  8. Postal Code

 

Other Provinces Address Structure

  1. House no.
  2. The village, Housing Communities, Condo name, or Building name - Optional
  3. Village number (Moo หมู่ or ม.) - Optional
  4. Road (Thanon ถนน or ถ.) - Optional
  5. Sub-District (Tambon - ตำบล or ต.)
  6. District (Amphur - อำเภอ or อ.)
  7. Province (Changwat - จังหวัด or จ.)
  8. Postal Code
